Change of Plans

Apparently, the Queen and Prince Phillip are both sick. They each have a very bad cold. Too ill to travel too Sandringham for Christmas. They were supposed to leave London today, but, have postponed those plans. Hopefully, they will feel well enough to travel tomorrow.

I would imagine they weren't feeling too well on Tuesday, but, they managed to host their annual pre-Christmas luncheon for their family.  (Here are a few photos of William, Kate and Harry arriving for this event at Buckingham Palace.) It's terrible to be sick at Christmastime.

Way-Back-When-s-day

Apparently, in 1981, after Prince Charles and Lady Diana were engaged, if you had $1,500, you could have lunch with the father of the bride, Earl Spencer.

Barbara Cartland, the Earl's mother in law, wrote 300+ romantic novels and sold over 100 million copies. She negotiated a deal with a New York travel agency World of Oz. Besides lunch with the Earl, the tour included a stay at Althrop, Lady Di's family home, tea with Barbara, and visits to several historical places, like stonehenge, and Shakespeare's birthplace.

Diana's family received a lot of flack for the tours. But, they claimed that the deal was made before the couple was engaged.

Here's the link to the actual article. It appeared in the Chicago Tribune on April 6, 1981
